To participate in our state-approved online courses and receive your DPSST training credit, you must meet the following technology and classroom environment requirements. All remote courses are conducted live via Zoom. Once you complete your registration, an email containing your confirmation and appointment details will be sent to you so you can access and join the virtual classroom meeting.
Failure to meet these requirements will result in removal from the virtual classroom and a requirement to reschedule.
Approved Devices: You MUST use a desktop computer or a laptop (Windows or Mac).
No Mobile Phones or Tablets: You are strictly prohibited from joining the course on a smartphone, iPhone, iPad, or Android tablet.
Why? The state curriculum requires you to actively view full-screen presentations, reference digital manuals, and complete your written state examinations securely. Mobile devices do not support the multi-tasking or screen size required for proper DPSST certification tracking.
Working Webcam Required: Your device must have a functional built-in or external webcam.
Webcams MUST Remain ON: To verify identity and active participation under DPSST audit guidelines, your camera must remain turned on and your full face must be clearly visible for the entire duration of the course.
Working Microphone: You must have a functional microphone (built-in or headset) to participate in class discussions and verbal assessments.
Meeting Platform: We use Zoom to host all training sessions. You will use the link provided in your appointment confirmation email to log in on class day.
Zoom Desktop Client: Download and install the free Zoom app on your computer prior to class day. Do not attempt to run the course solely through a limited internet browser tab.
High-Speed Internet: A stable, high-speed internet connection is required. We recommend a wired connection or sitting close to your Wi-Fi router to prevent dropping out of the stream.
Treat this remote course exactly like you are sitting in our physical classroom.
Distraction-Free Space: You must be indoors, in a quiet, private, well-lit room where you can focus without background noise or interruptions.
No Multi-tasking: You cannot take this course while on duty working a security shift, driving a vehicle, or watching children.
Professional Conduct: You must remain seated, fully dressed, alert, and engaged. Students who fall asleep, walk away from their screens outside of designated breaks, or leave the camera frame will be dropped from the roster.
Before clicking the Zoom link in your confirmation email on the morning of training, make sure you have:
A Valid Government-Issued ID: (Driver's license, state ID card, or passport) ready to display clearly to the instructor on camera during roster verification.
Writing Materials: A notepad and pen to take notes during the lecture.
Your Study Manual: Have your digital or printed copy of the DPSST Private Security manual open and ready to use. A copy of the digital manual will be provided, or you can download one here:

DPSST Unarmed Refresher Manual
Students are responsible for their own learning. Prior to attending class, you should review the core training materials so that we can engage in a meaningful and productive discussion during our time together. Please review the DPSST Unarmed Professional Manuals attached below.
Change of Address: You must notify your employer and the state within 14 calendar days of moving, using an official Change of Information form.
Criminal Charges: If you are ever charged with a crime, you are legally required to notify your employer (or the state directly if unemployed) within 48 hours of the charge being filed.
Credential Demand: Always carry your active Temporary Work Permit, certification, or license while on duty; you must present it upon demand to state staff, law enforcement, or upon any reasonable request.
What to Wear: Dress properly and professionally. For a training environment, uniform or business-casual attire is highly recommended.
What to Bring: Valid government-issued photo identification, note-taking materials (notebook and pen), and a mindset focused on complete honesty and integrity.
The P.A.S.S. Method (Fire Safety): Remember your fire extinguisher basics: Pull the safety pin, Aim at the base of the fire, Squeeze the handle, and Sweep across the flames. Always call 9-1-1 before taking action.
The R.A.I.N. Framework (Critical Threats): In any high-risk or hazardous situation, default immediately to Recognize the hazard, Avoid the area or contamination, Isolate the danger zone, and Notify command authorities or emergency responders.
