"I entered the private security sector in the late 2010s, building my foundation in the unarmed industry with a heavy focus on verbal de-escalation and tactical communication. Believing that a well-rounded professional must be prepared for any operational environment, I later earned my armed and unarmed professional licenses and transitioned into hands-on field roles, working a wide variety of on-site security details and mobile patrol services.
Driven by a commitment to operational excellence, I advanced into supervisory positions and earned my Executive Manager’s license in 2022. From there, I stepped into Operations Manager roles for multiple companies over several years. In these positions, I took on the responsibility of managing full-scale security operations, tracking staffing and training schedules, and overseeing company hiring and personnel management.
To pull my years of leadership and field experience together, I earned my official state instructor’s license for the unarmed curriculum. My extensive background in frontline supervision and corporate operations management allows me to bring unique, street-level insights directly to the classroom. Throughout my career, I have prioritized building trusted, collaborative relationships with public safety stakeholders across our contracting areas, working closely with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, and local police agencies like the Portland Police Bureau. I co-founded OTS to pass these exact real-world habits and professional standards down to the next generation of security professionals."
"I got my start in the security industry back in October 2022. Honestly, I didn't have huge expectations going in—it was just a second job to pull in some extra income. My first role was strictly hands-off and unarmed. It was all about communication, using verbal de-escalation, and helping manage things out in the community, like connecting unhoused individuals with local resources and places to go.
I quickly realized I had a real knack for the work. I moved up fast and was promoted to graveyard Field Supervisor, managing a team of about 40 officers on on-site details and mobile district patrols. Back then, the Portland metro area was facing a major law enforcement shortage, which meant local businesses depended heavily on private security. Part of my job was acting as the direct bridge between our company and the Portland Police Bureau, keeping the lines of communication wide open so we could coordinate on calls for service and handle regional security needs. On top of that, I was handling site checks, keeping our crews sharp, and jumping into patrol routes whenever needed to make sure everything got done.
Ready for a new challenge, I leveled up my credentials, earned my armed security license, and transitioned into hands-on, higher-risk security. The sites I took on were much more intense and required an armed presence. Working these details, I built strong personal relationships with local law enforcement and was on a first-name basis with several deputies from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. We even ran joint task forces together to address retail theft networks and manage high-activity transient areas.
Later on, I brought my experience into the educational sector as a Campus Supervisor for the Beaverton School District. There, I went through intense training focused on advanced conflict de-escalation, Crisis Intervention, and suicide prevention. This role brought my career full circle, blending hands-on field experience back into a role completely rooted in communication. Because managing a safe school campus takes a village, my line of work allowed me to build strong, collaborative connections with a wide network of local agencies, including the Beaverton Police Department, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, Washington County Juvenile Services, and the Washington County Department of Human Services.
I co-founded OTS to take every bit of that street-level experience, the high-stakes lessons, and those crucial public safety relationships, and pass them directly to you through my instruction. My goal isn’t just to help you check a box for a certificate—it’s to ensure that when you step out onto a site in uniform, you have the tactical communication skills, the confidence, and the real-world knowledge to handle whatever comes your way and make it home safe."
